IRIDEX SYSTEM HAS NOVEL APPROACH
TO SKIN REJUVENATION

A novel approach to photo rejuvenation called MicroSpot Rejuvenation is being offered by Iridex with its new VariLite 532-940 nm diode laser system.
Bal-Tech Medical is currently testing this laser in its Ultimate Image Medical Spa and Training Center as a way to offer a skin rejuvenation procedure that can treat the whole face quickly, while also treating individual veins with the 940 nm wavelength.

The MicroSpot Rejuvenation is a high-energy focal treatment that leaves untreated tissue between small spot exposures, providing more efficacy than traditional large-spot treatments and improved safety and post-treatment healing.

“The VariLite uses fractional treatment technology, but it should not be confused with the Fraxel® system that is used for skin resurfacing,” Bal-Tech Medical President Rich Balance said. “This MicroSpot is superior for photorejuvenation due to its absorption characteristics, and when performed with the ScanLite XP scanner, is not impacting the entire face, which eliminates the risk of volumetrically overheating tissue which can occur with IPL systems.”

“This fractional scanning is a way to aggressively rejuvenate the facial tissue without the aggressive side effects.”

The VariLite laser has an even more powerful 532 component than the original, popular Diolite 532, while having the expanded application with the 940 for vascular lesions. In addition to the vascular lesions, the VariLite and Diolite systems address pigmented lesions, cutaneous lesions and moderate inflammatory acne vulgaris.

“These lasers are very effective, while being portable and low maintenance,” Balance said. “And it is becoming apparent that the 940 wavelength’s absorption profile is excellent for addressing larger vessels, even as a starting point as opposed to the 1064.”

Balance said that a series of five to six facial rejuvenation treatments with random scanning leaves many uninjured zones of tissue, increasing the tissue’s ability to heal itself through natural horizontal epidermal migration.

“The Microspot scanner is obviously a huge breakthrough in skin rejuvenation treatments,” Balance said.

Bal-Tech Medical will be including the new VariLite laser as part of its proprietory Aesthetic Success Program premium package.

SOME TIPS FOR THOSE TIPS

Bal-Tech Medical clients who have purchased, or are considering the purchase of, a Luxar Co2 laser can benefit in knowing some tips for use and care of the laser tips with the system.

These are recommendations that Bal-Tech Medical has passed along to Co2 laser owners in the past:

1) For incision or excision, use the .25mm spot (metal) tip, and do not use above the 10W average power, or a .35mm spot (metal) tip, and do not use above the 5W average power.

2) For large areas of vaporization/coagulation, use a .8mm tip (ceramic or metal).

3) The smaller the spot size – the faster it defocuses, the better it cuts, the less it coagulates (you can only coagulate a blood vessel that is smaller in diameter than the size of your spot.)

4) Fiber tips should be replaced after each laser procedure to prevent cross contamination.

5) If you are sterilizing tips to be reused, remember: Never soak metal tips, as liquid can damage the inside. Place metal tips through the ethylene oxide sterilization process. Ceramic tips may be soaked in Cidex™. Allow tips to dry completely before reusing. These tips are porous and can hold water, so it is best to autoclave or use ethylene oxide.
