ULTRASONIC
FACIAL CAN BECOME STAPLE AT YOUR PRACTICE
By
Rich Balance
Bal-Tech Medical President
The
concept of bringing high-tech medicine and advanced spa
treatments together is what gave birth to the current "Medi-Spa"
phenomenon in America.

An ultrasonic facial system can become a staple in
any Medi-Spa operation. Contact Bal-Tech Medical for
pricing or more information about the Smart Sound
system.

In reality,
however, many centers and clinics seem to be leaning more
profoundly in one direction or the other. This usually is
related to their comfort level with existing technologies
and/or their exposure to new technologies and treatments.
It's often difficult to determine which new applications
and equipment are appropriate to offer in your Medi-Spa.
After all, you don't want to be labeled "just a spa"
and there certainly are plenty of medical offices focusing
on aesthetic services.
How do you differentiate your business, yet still stay within
the bounds of this fast-growing concept? You do so primarily
by providing minimally invasive high-tech aesthetic medical
procedures along with valid, advanced spa treatments.
Most successful Medi-Spas understand this strategy, though
it is still challenging to implement.
In an effort to assist our customers, our Medi-Spa Showcase
feature will periodically inform readers about new and existing
technologies and treatments that we believe "fit into"
and benefit the Medi-Spa concept. This month's Medi-Spa
Showcase features the "Ultrasonic Facial."
Ultrasound has served the medical community for many years
diagnostically and for rehabilitation. SoundSkin Corporation
had the vision to recognize that this proven technology
had application for deep tissue stimulation and treatment
of facial skin. Their SmartSound Bio-Blend (proprietary
Ultrasound and Electrical energy) system not only feels
wonderful, but can be used very successfully alone or in
conjunction with microdermabrasion as a key component of
a comprehensive "skin fitness" program.
For years, the literature has shown that Ultrasound stimulates
fibroblasts and collagen (in wound healing). This warm,
soothing technology can also drive skin-care products deeply
into the tissue and the recent "buzz" has even
been one of using it with topical (micronized) collagen
for an almost instant (short-term) elimination of wrinkles.
The technology fits the Medi-Spa concept perfectly, as it
is only available to licensed M.D.'s (although it can usually
be performed by ancillary staff). The Journal of American
Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery has stated:
"New
skin-care product formulations, used in conjunction with
ultrasound, will allow deeper penetration of topically applied
rejuvenating agents into the skin, resulting in significantly
improved aesthetic results."
The Ultrasonic Facial, whether alone or in combination with
microdermabrasion, can become a "staple" procedure
for any successful Medi-Spa, providing consistent, repeating
revenue and happy patients. It's a valid procedure that
is so soothing to patients and their skin, which they will
continue to request it.
Bal-Tech Medical also operates the Ultimate Image Medi-Spa
in the Chicago suburbs. Ultimate Image is used by Bal-Tech
to demonstrate equipment and provide training to its clients.
It also is the basis for the company's Cosmetic Center Development
Program.

Bal-Tech
Medical Services Luxar Co2 Lasers

Lou Sliva of Bal-Tech Medical works on a Luxar
Co2 laser in his repair workshop. Bal-Tech offers
service on all aesthetic laser equipment, but
specializes in Luxar service in the cosmetic,
dental and veterinary (Accuvet lasers) fields.

Bal-Tech
Medical's service expertise now covers the gamut from
lasers to microdermabradors, but it started with servicing
the popular Luxar LX-20/NovaPulse Co2 line of lasers.
Bal-Tech Medical president Richard Balance was instrumental
in the growth and development of Luxar Corporation
prior to its sale to ESC Lumenis.
At the time of that sale, Balance was busy developing
his own Bal-Tech Medical company to serve the aesthetic/medical
laser community with quality laser equipment and service.
Bal-Tech offers full warranty and preventive maintenance
programs for Lumenis/Luxar lasers, in addition to
reliable emergency service and competitive hourly
labor rates.
"In many cases, we encourage our customers to
stick with the less expensive preventive maintenance
plans," Balance said. "The full warranty
program is a sound program, but if you prefer to use
that money in other areas of your budget, then it
is wiser to go with our preventive maintenance program
and then use our economical hourly labor rates for
any repair needs."
Owners of Luxar lasers can contact Bal-Tech laser
technician Lou Sliva at 1-800-574-2152 for more information
about service programs.
In addition to providing quality service, Bal-Tech
buys and sells preowned Lumenis/Luxar Co2 lasers,
and sells the full line of tips, fibers and handpieces
needed to operate the units (Lumenis/Luxar, Sharplan
and others).
