Equipment the key factor in program cost levels
IPL technology less expensive, while remaining effective

The Lumenis Vasculight and Quantum systems are common in the IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) technology market, but most major manufacturers sell an IPL product. Bal-Tech Medical obtains preowned systems that result in significant savings for its clients.

During our consultations with clients preparing to add aesthetic treatments to a current practice, or to open a separate medical spa center, we often are asked the main difference between the levels of our full Aesthetic Success Program.
The cost of our full programs depend on how a client customizes the various equipment, marketing and clinical training offerings to fit their budget and business plan.
But the main difference affecting price is in the equipment. In the less expensive programs, we recommend refurbished IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) technology as an excellent less-expensive option because these systems allow a clinician to perform several treatments – hair removal, photofacial and acne, as well as vascular and pigmented lesions if a YAG component is included – out of one unit.
While we advise our clients that specific wavelengths in lasers for specific treatments, such as an 810 diode or 755 Alexandrite for hair removal, is going to produce better results, we are quick to remind them that the IPL usually won’t strain the budget as badly, and it offers a wider treatment menu to start.
As time goes on and a medical spa business grows, then it would be wise to pursue specific wavelength lasers for certain applications, while continuing to use an IPL for photofacial and backup for hair removal. Remember, the IPL remains very effective for hair removal, if it has enough joules, but it may call for a few more treatments or maintenance treatment visits for the patient.
But the accountant at your medical spa will like the less expensive payments on equipment over the long haul.
There are some important stipulations, however. If your client base presents a majority of darker skin types, then the IPL would not be your best choice. You would then be in need of a 1064 YAG which is the safest for darker skin hair removal, though not always the most effective when comparing it to an 810 diode on a lighter skin type.
During a Bal-Tech Medical consult, we can explain the various handpieces and filters utilized with IPL technology, as well as cooling devices, to address some of the darker skin types. But generally, we make it clear that it remains a hazard zone despite some of the claims of IPL manufacturers.
